Direct cremation or a funeral service?

Direct cremation or a funeral service?

Different choices. The same respect.

The main difference is whether a ceremony is part of the cremation arrangements. Your family can choose the kind of remembrance that feels right.

What is a direct cremation?

Direct Cremation is a private cremation without a funeral ceremony or attendance at the crematorium. Timeless coordinates the agreed care, documentation, cremation and arrangements for returning ashes. We explain the inclusions and any additional charges before you proceed.

This can suit a person who has asked for a simple arrangement or a family that wants to remember them separately. It does not mean their life cannot be honoured. A gathering at home, a meal with family or a later memorial or celebration of life can still be considered.

What is an attended funeral?

A funeral with a ceremony gives family and friends a shared time to say goodbye. It may take place in a chapel or church, with music, readings, a celebrant or clergy and personal tributes. The venue, timing and choices are agreed with your family.

A ceremony can accompany cremation or burial. Choosing a ceremony does not require the same format for every family; we can discuss beliefs, traditions and personal preferences with the people and venue involved.

Questions to talk through together

  • Did your loved one leave wishes or a prepaid plan?
  • Would people value attending a ceremony together?
  • Is a private arrangement and a later gathering more suitable?
  • Are there cultural or religious requirements to discuss?
  • Do family members need time to travel before a gathering?
  • What would help you understand the total cost?

There is no need to have a complete answer before calling. If a private viewing matters to you, raise it early: it requires separate confirmation and is not included in a standard Direct Cremation. Do not assume that it can be added to every arrangement.
